Star anise is commonly used in Asian cooking. It has a licorice flavor that is similar to, but more potent than, regular anise, although the two come from different plants. Star Anise is one of the ingredients in Chinese Five Spice Powder and Garam Masala. It can also be used for potpourri or mulling spices.
